School Talk, Volume 13, Number 4, July 2008
Rudine Sims Bishop, the NCTE Elementary Section Outstanding Educator for 2007, leads off this issue with a powerful piece focused on the reasons for using multicultural texts in education, as well as the history and the challenges of doing so. Mary Brennan demonstrates how she uses a variety of literature to develop critical readers as well as a range of 21st century multiliteracies in her first-grade classroom, and Julie Doyle, a librarian, discusses how to choose the best multicultural books for your students.
