About the Cover
The cover image for this issue is from BRAVO! Poems about Amazing Hispanics by Margarita Engle, published by Henry Holt and Company. Pura Belpré was a Puerto Rican librarian who introduced bilingual story hours at the New York Public Library. She left a lasting legacy that connects children with their Spanish culture. The image was created with a combination of pencil drawing, hand-cut paper, acrylic paint on wood, and digitally collaged. Reprinted courtesy of Henry Holt and Company.
The cover artist, Rafael López, has been honored with multiple awards, including several Pura Belpré medals from the American Library Association. In addition to his books, you can find his work on a series of US postage stamps, the 2012 National Book Festival Poster, and on murals all over the country.

Diciendo cuentos/Telling Stories: Learning from and about the Community Cultural Wealth of Latina Mamás through Latino Children's Literature
Author(s): Julia López-RobertsonGuided by a Community Cultural Wealth framework, which is based upon the notion that Communities of Color are filled with strong resources, the study reports on findings from a research project engaging a small group of Latina mamás in literature discussions about Latino children’s literature. Rather than view the ways of meaning making that families share with their children in their homes and communities as deficits, a CCW framework requires an examination of these forms of knowledge through an assets-based lens. The inquiry examined how it is possible for Latino families to be invited into schools.
