English Leadership Quarterly, Volume 34, Number 2, October 2011
The Common Core Standards, developed by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers, have now been adopted in 45 states, but teachers and school administrators are still working to understand, unpack, and align curricula with them. In spite of supporters, detractors, and skeptics, this issue’s contributors have found that good things can come from them when teachers collaborate and reflect on best practices and creative learning opportunities that are possible within those Standards. Three teachers describe how they came to terms with and incorporated Common Core Standards, while educational veterans Tom Scott and Ernest Morrell offer positive perspectives on leadership in this new age. The 2011 CEL election slate and ballot also appear in this issue.
