The debate about whether the election of Barack Obama reflects a “post-racial” society rages on, but teachers know that racism in schools is alive and well, and race matters. This month’s authors approach the issue from varied experiences, and leave us with deeper understandings about what it means to “see” race, how to devise an inclusive curriculum, how to identify those students who are being assigned to special education with insufficient consideration, and what it feels like to be a minority student on a predominantly white campus.
