English Leadership Quarterly, Volume 31, Number 3, February 2009
More LessEnglish Leadership Quarterly Volume 31, Number 3, February 2009 Issue theme: Reading Instruction and Special Populations While stakes are high for all students, the stakes might be highest for our special population students. Students struggle for a variety of reasons, some emotional (lack of confidence, lack of support, lack of interest) and some physical (dyslexia, learning disabilities). Others are learning English for the first time. How can teachers make sure these students receive adequate instruction and support that helps them develop needed skills and a lifelong love of reading? Contributors Teri Lesesne; Judy Hoffpauir; Melissa Simons, Lindsey Hilgenkamp, and Pat McCoy; and Deoksoon Kim each broach this question from a different perspective of expertise and experience to help us answer this question. CEL chair Debbie McCullar also reports on the CEL Convention in San Antonio, and the 2009 CEL Proposal form in included.
