Abstract

In a teaching climate of test prep and scripted lessons, Johnston has given up the classroom. He has not given up on teachers, however. Here is a description of the rationale for a Middle Level study committee that plans to document poor teaching practices dictated by school districts and to construct a database with research-supported techniques that can validate alternative approaches for those reluctant administrators who so easily buy into structured programs they can control.
