Abstract
In this issue, we invite you to rediscover the importance of valuing the languages that students bring with them to school. Laurie Katz explores the strategic shift that teachers can take in their stance towards linguistic diversity in their schools. Summer McLin and Sally Brown discuss how to create the type of learning community where students feel safe to use the language most familiar to them in order to develop their proficiency with academic English without losing pride and value in their linguistic heritage.
