Abstract
Although there are no easy answers for dealing with the challenge of providing effective literacy instruction to students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, the work of Luis Moll (1988) has provided teachers with some guidelines. Moll recognizes the importance of presenting second language learners with many opportunities to engage in reading and writing in meaningful contexts.
