Abstract

Today’s increased emphasis on testing has drawn attention to the smaller elements of written language, such as spelling. And parents may not recognize that spelling is part of the curriculum if they don’t see their students memorizing lists of words. How can you draw upon the latest research on how children learn to spell and integrate spelling instruction into your language arts classroom while easing the concerns of parents? The authors in this issue of School Talk show you how. Spelling: What We Still Worry About Sandra Wilde Learning to Spell All Day Long Dick Koblitz The Pal in Principal: Leadership that Promotes Spelling Development in Elementary Schools Kelly Chandler-Olcott and Gail Gibson.
