Abstract

NCLB. Race to the Top. Federal dollars. Standardized tests. AYP. What children need from education has been debated, legislated, and studied since formal schooling began, but we never seem to be able to match the needs of individual children with substantive education on a large scale. As editor Susan Groenke says, “We need real change, not lip service.” So she went to the source—teachers and students—and asked them what they would tell our president about what they need. Their answers are honest, heartfelt, and occasionally moving. Hear what they have to say. Also included are highlights from the 2010 CEL convention.
