Abstract

Vocabulary instruction is an essential part of the language arts curriculum, but it is often overlooked because of lack of time or effective resources. Amanda St. Clair Otten suggests strategies for approaching vocabulary through skills instead of drills, giving students opportunities to discover new words in the context of both independent and whole-class reading.
