Abstract

Discusses the experience of English teachers in one Kentucky school as they worked with their students to prepare portfolios to meet the requirements for the new Kentucky Education Reform Act. What they learned was that merely assigning writing and stuffing the products in the folder didn’t produce highly graded portfolios. What the whole school learned was that producing the portfolios was all about improving students’ writing through meaningful experiences across the curriculum and that to do that, all the teachers needed to teach and use writing in their classes.
