Abstract

Many teachers will agree with the author that the teaching of poetry is often “a very unsatisfactory and problematical affair.” Dr. Friedrich discusses procedures in the teaching of poetry and illustrates an approach with Matthew Arnold’s “Dover Beach.” Dr. Friedrich is head of the English Department at Cedar Crest College, Allentown, Pennsylvani.
