¹ Douglas B. Park is chairperson of the Department of English at Western Washington University. He has directed the freshman English program at Pennsylvania State University. He teaches courses in composition and eighteenth-century literature, has published essays on Pope and Conrad, and is working on a study of the nature of audience.
