oa Working with Primary Sources in the English Language Arts Classroom

Abstract
This collection of teaching ideas is the result of a collaboration between the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Library of Congress (LOC) to expand the use of primary sources in high school English language arts classrooms. Over the course of two years, a cohort of ELA teachers met and discussed how to incorporate primary sources from the LOC into their literature, poetry, and writing curricula. The resulting lessons draw on nonfiction texts from the LOC holdings, including images, film, audio recordings, and web-based publications.
